Drag! My favourite new sound

While having a cheeky peruse of Pitchfork, I came across an article describing a new sound that is mutating worldwide titled 'Drag'. After downloading the tracks that came with it, I have fallen in love! I cannot deny its similarities with dubstep, but it appears to just be an amalgamation of dubstep and deep house, which I am in love with also. So, I compiled a mix to commemorate the discovery of this genre, and it will be the next long awaited 'Fortnightly Mix' (not so fortnightly I have to admit, apologies)

Have a listen, and if you like what you hear let me know, I'd like to find out what other people think of this style of music...

Tracklist
Silent Diane - Harmonikai
OoOOo - nosummer4u
White Ring - IxC999
OoOOo - seaww
Balam Acab - See Birds
Fostercare - Heat High
Balam Acab - Heavy Living Things

Caspa LIVE!

Just found this mix from the Rinse website, featuring a live set from Caspa with Flowdan on MC duties. Please download it and listen to it from 39 minutes to 49 minutes - potentially the best 10 minutes of live dubstep I have ever heard, so heavy - if anyone know what the tune is that gets reloaded during that time, please let me know!

Fortnightly Mix 04

Yes, it's that time again, AbandonSilence this fortnight will be bringing you a new and unrivalled option- that is, the option to hear the stream the mix direct from this post! You may recognise the SoundCloud box from the previous Skream post, and we are very proud to announce that most, if not all, tracks we release from now on will be given this treatment.

So, to the mix. Following on from the last mix was hard, given just how hard we came in with that, here we have tried to up our game with some killer mixes and heeeavy tracks.

Coming in with a glitchy remix of Kid Cudi and Snoop's collaboration, we've tried to drop it in at the deep end. We followed that up a delightfully fun 12th Planet remix, and then let you all hear the FlyLo remix of KanYe West's Love Lockdown, available for download here. After that we went straight down into the filth with 16Bit's hard remix of Plan B's She Said.

We had a tall task attempting to follow that up, so after hefty debate we settled upon 6Blocc's Weed Dub, a deliciously bassy track that will be featuring in our up coming 'Weedstep' compilation mix. To finish you all off we gave you Joker's forthcoming release, Tron, and finished with the amazing Doctor P remix of 12th Planet's Reasons (similarities to his other tracks have been duly noted, but it's still awesome)

For those of you who are new to SoundCloud, to download the mix click the little 'arrow' thing to the right of the box. The tracklisting will appear if you download it or if you go here

Also,if you sign up for a FREE account, you can comment on particular points in the mix. This is a quite awesome part of SoundCloud, we think you should all get an account and do it on this mix.

Cheers,
Andy at AbandonSilence

Enjoi: Fortnightly Mix 03

The third Fortnightly Mix is upon us, and this is one of the BEST mixes I have ever created, seriously. The mix itself was a gift made for a mate, but I surprised myself with how well it went so AbandonSilence has decided to give it to you, the lovely viewers, as this fortnight's Fortnightly Mix. (How many times can you say Fortnight in one paragraph?)

The tracklist includes a devilish Skreamix, a heavy dubstep remix of a classic Eski beat, some soothing Plastician, recent post features Killabits and Sbtrkt, before climaxing with the epic and beautiful Starkey remix of Bon Ivor's 'Woods'.

Please take this, we really are so proud of this.

AbandonSilence Feb '10 mix

Another month, another chilled mix!

After the undoubted success of last month's mix, which we can reveal has been the most visited individual post of all, we return with February's Chilled Mix.

Granted, a few of these tracks come from 2009, but we have attempted to include new material, and hopefully some gems that you don't already know. By the way if anyone wants mp3s of individual tracks, PLEASE COMMENT at the bottom of the post. Thanks.

So, to the mix. The tracks included are some nice chilled tunes for you to kick back and relax to. There's new Joy Orbison, new Floating Points and a fresh cut of Pangaea's recent EP. Also The XXs remix of Florence, a rare Portishead remix and some very old school Rusko production. AbandonSilence cannot stress enough the importance of getting this mix in your life, and to track down every individual track.

Tracklist (Under Lyrics if using iTunes)
Burial & Four Tet - Moth (AbandonSilence Refix)
Florence & The Machine - You've Got The Love (The XX Remix)
Portishead - The Hunter (12th Planet Remix)

Untold - Stop What You're Doing (James Blake Remix)
Joy Orbison - So Derobe
Floating Points - J & W
Rusko - Love is Real
Pangaea - Why
Goldie - Inner City Life (Sbtrkt Edit)

Jakwob 30 Minute Mix

Jakwob is a name that has mysteriously appeared in the dubstep world, and through a hard graft of multiple remixes of relatively well known artists, he has built a repertoire and a fanbase.

However, very little is actually known about this guy. As per, he is a Londoner, but not much else is known. Last week on Mistajam (prick) 's BBC Radio 1Xtra show, he showcased a 30 minute mix. The tracklist is very interesting, including some original works, some of his remixes and some hip hop.

In 30 minutes Jakwob crams in Ellie Goulding, Jurassic 5, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Dead Prez and Skream, just to name a few. This is a mean set list, and is a brilliant showcase for Mr Jakwob's style and tastes.
Check it out for free at Mistajam's BBC site.
